CNC wire bending is a fabrication technique that allows designers to fabricate replicas of a wire design with immense accuracy and precision.
This fabrication method takes wire of various thickness and bends them into two-dimensional or three-dimensional shapes and forms.
The main functioning of the machine passes wire to a bed that moves a raised circular part next to the wire to bend it at various degrees. This process continues to push more wire out as needed, producing custom forms for a variety of applications. When its is done, the back end of the wire is snipped off and the more wire material is pushed forward to continue the fabrication process.

Most CNC wire benders are made up of the following components:
-Turntable for spinning and orienting bending knob
-Feeder for feeding raw wire onto the bending surface
-Straightner for straightening out wire for bending
-Bender, either 2D or 3D
-Other components for snipping, punching,
These wires have a many applications, including hard springs, framing, jewelery components, furniture, tools etc.

The DIWire Bender is a rapid prototype machine that bends metal wire to produce 2D or 3D shapes. Wire unwinds from a spool, passes through a series of wheels that straighten it, and then feeds through the bending head, which moves around in 3 dimensions to create the desired bends and curves. Vector files (e.g., Adobe Illustrator files), text files of commands (e.g., feed 50 mm, bend 90° to right…) provide DIWire’s instructions. It’s essentially a 3D printer that describes lines, instead of volumes, in space, and it could be used for anything from prototypes to customized products.
